Summary: Come on now, What would Halloween be without Charlie..........
Comment: Although hundreds of Halloween TV specials bombard us each October with cartoons and shows but this is my personal all-time favorite. Charles Shultz was a visionary artist. He transcends time and race barriers to create these wonderful characters anyone can identify with. This one has it all! Wonderful hand drawn animation with warm watercolor backgrounds that capture the essence of Autumn so vividly along with the terrific scoring by jazz musician Vince Guarldi.

For those of you that already know, I like for you to reminisce with me here but if you don't know you get poor Charlie Brown and his misfortune to always get a rock instead of candy on Halloween night! Linus and his misguided Great Pumpkin worship. Lucy and her mean streak! Sally and her unrequited love. Snoopy and his alter-ego the Red Baron! SO many good memories are made by watching these specials. It's not only the characters of Charlie Brown, Linus and Lucy that keep you in hysterics, but Sally .. she steals the show. She's not only cute and lovable, but can whip out sarcasm with the best of em. I think she can even give Lucy a run for her money!

Now before I continue, is it me or is that moon mighty huge on the pumpkin patch field. I was always at awe every time that scene came up. If you have kids (or are kids at heart) this is a no-brainer. Start (or continue) your Holiday tradition right with "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" today!

Oh, Great Pumpkin--where are you?

Question for those who are enjoying the horror fest this month I need to know "Who is your favorite character and why?" You get a extra treat if your able to answer it. Happy Halloween!

Summary: The Great Pumpkin has arrived!
Comment: Thank you Warner Brothers for releasing a remastered version of this holiday classic. You all know the story so here are just a few comments about this new version. The picture is fantastic. The image is a little sharper and the colors really stand out when compared to the previous release. The look is no longer muddied. Also, right after the scene where Charlie Brown receives an invitation to the Halloween party, Linus carries a sign into the pumpkin patch and the scene fades to black for the commercial break. On the previous release, the scene fades and the music cuts out. I always believed that is how it always was. On this new release, the scene fades to black but the music cue continues with a black screen until it finishes. There must have been some kind of bumper here for the original broadcast. At least the music cue has been restored. Unfortunately, the final scene behind the credits is a little off but that doesn't take away from the rest of the show. Now for a quick comment on the "making of" extra. If you own the book, then this featurette adds nothing! But it is still nice to hear the story from the people that were involved. Too bad they didn't interview the child actors. This is a definite improvement over Paramount's previous release. Enjoy!

Summary: A True ***CLASSIC***!
Comment: I can still remember being a kid and looking forward to each big holiday--Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter--and the accompanying "Peanuts" specials that would usher in each of them. Glued to my television set, my heart would start skipping beats when I would see the CBS "Special" logo come flying out that would indicate the normal TV line up was being preempted.

That's how it was with IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN. I loved this cartoon and would watch it every year. This new 2008 edition does not disappoint.

What's different on this release is:

***Remastered--although I can't really tell the difference (maybe the colors are more vibrant?)

***It's Magic, Charlie Brown--bonus episode not included on the 2000 release

***We Need A Blockbuster, Charlie Brown--14-minute Featurette on the making of "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"

I'll probably hold onto my 2000 ITGPCB release because that has a bonus episode of "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" on it.

Must have for fans of "Peanuts" and Halloween. But there's a set Peanuts Holiday Collection (It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown / A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving / A Charlie Brown Christmas) (Deluxe Edition) that includes the new editions of ITGPCB, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas. So you might want to buy that set if you're like me and love all the holiday specials.

Summary: A CLASSIC
Comment: This came out in 66, and I was born in 67, so you can say, I grew up watching this classic tv show. I love the Peanuts gang, especially Snoopy. Im not going to go into what the Great Pumpkin is about, because all these other people have, but I will say that I watch it every season when it comes on tv, even now adays. No, Halloween will never ever be he same for me, I have no kids, no kids in my neighborhood trick or treat, because they all go to halloween carnivals, just as well I guess, because to be honest, if I had kids, I would not want them to go trick or treating these days. Oh well, times change, but when I watch this classic on tv every Halloween season, it takes me back to a time when the world was a much better, safer place....

Summary: GOOD AS I REMEMBER
Comment: What can you say about this classic. Hearing Linus trying to convice everyone of the great pumpkin brought back some found memories of when I used to sneak and stay up past my bedtime a watch it. Charlie Brown classics are a always a sure fire hit.
