Customer Rating: Summary: I wish I hadn't heard it... Comment: I went out and bought this album, came home and put it on only to be sadly disappointed. I had thought extra effort would have been put into this album and perhaps there was. That makes it sadder. I don't believe that Pete and Roger can do an album together at least with out their fine bass player. Maybe they will make a liar of me. Though I can this album completely, I still give them 3 stars for being remnants of the Who and rock and roll greats who I've joined down through the years. Customer Rating: Summary: The Who reunion album Comment: Finaly after years of reunion tours The Who has an all new album of all new material. Their first in 24 years. Unfortunutly it was after the death of the late, great bassist John Entwhistle. As far as Who albums go this is definetly their weakest. It has some good songs but just doesen't compare to classics like Who's Next, Tommy, Quadrophoenia and The Who By Numbers. The album starts with Fragments which has a similar synthesizer into that Baba O'Riley did. A Man In A Purple Dress is an acoustic ballad that is the protest song on the album. This one is one of the weaker songs from the album but the next song Mike Post Theme makes up for it. This is a really good rocker with Pete Townshend playing drums on the song believe it or not. In The Ether is absolutley horrible with Pete singing like the muppet Dr. Teeth. Very skipable songs. Black Widow's Eyes is a good song sounding more mellow then some of the rockier numbers. God Speaks of Marty Robbins is another acoustic ballad and like Man In A Purple Dress is very boring. Two Thousand Years doesen't have much going for it. Just Pete playing a mandolin and Roger and Pete singing over it. It's Not Enough was the first single from the album and I can't get over how much this sounds like an Eric Clapton song. if you like Clapton you might like this. Decent song but not up to par with the greatness of The Who. You Stand By Me is another acoustic ballad with Pete singing on it and is one I enjoy quite a bit. Next we go into the mini-opera Wire And Glass. Yep with a new album we should expect another rock opera. Only thing about the opera I don't really get what the story is. This like the first half of the album has it's pluses and minuses. Sound Round is a very energetic rocker that is just as good as any good Who rocker. Pick Up The Peace is a pretty good song that might bring the show CSI: Miami in your head since it sounds like a perfect theme song for it. Unholy Trinity is pretty dull. Not much on this one. Trilby's Piano is also skipable. Not much in the way of substance on this song. Endless Wire is the crowning achievemnet on this cd which makes it the best song on the album and one of my favorite Who songs all together. Fragments of Fragments is a reprise of Fragments which is cool but not as good as the first song. We Got A Hit is a little silly. It's a rocker with cheesey lyrics. They Make My Dream Come True is pretty lifeless. Not much to really say about it. Mirror Door is in my opinion one of the worst songs on here. It's a rocker but it is boring with bad lyrics. Tea And Theater Closes the opera poorly as this is another boring and lifeless song. next we have two extended versions of two previous songs. We Got A Hit which like I said before isn't much and Endless Wire which is better then the first one because it's longer and has more lyrics to it. Over all this is a decent album. the weakest from The Who but I like all their albums. To me even the bad albums are good. This is definetly worth listning to if you're a big Who fan. I can't recomend it to everybody but I feel everyone should give it a chance and judge for themselves. If I was to grade it I would give it a B. Customer Rating: Summary: you have to be kidding Comment: It is hard for me to believe that there are great reviews for this cd.I love the Who as as much as the biggest fan does but to say this is a good cd is a total joke. The positive reviews must have been written by blind fans that would give a good review to this band if they would do a remake of' Mary Had A Little Lamb'The music is repetitive and dull. One song starts out exactly like 'Baba O'Reilly' and only gets worse as the song progresses.Loyal fans must learn to give reviews with their ears and minds, not purely from their hearts. Customer Rating: Summary: The Who - A Big Dissapointment Comment: After a 25 year hiatus the Who finally came back with a new studio album. The band were now down to two members after the death of bassist John Entwistle in 2002. Having seen this version of the band shortly after Entwistle's death I was still very much enthused that Townshend and Daltry could pull off another great album. "Endless Wire" was one of my most anticipated albums to come out that year, but unfortunately the results were quite a bit less than my expectations. I have given this album dozens of listens hoping that it would grow on me more, but it just never has. I don't think that it is terrible, but it is by far the weakest Who album in my collection. Much of this album is mellow and acoustic in nature which in itself is not a bad thing, but there just seems to be some fire missing in the instrumental work here. Vocally both Daltry and Townshend are not what they used to be, which again could be overlooked if the material was better. The mini-opera "Wire And Glass" is....well it just is not very good when compared to the other operas (both mini and maxi) that Townshend has done over the years. Probably the best song on the disc is Townshend's "A Man In A Purple Dress", but even it would not stand up against the Who's top older material. Being a fan of John Entwistle for me his quirky songwriting that usually contributed a couple of tunes is sorely missed. I have really really tried to like this album and it just refuses to click with me and was a huge disappointment to my ears. Customer Rating: Summary: Who are you anyway? Comment: To those dolts who wrote reviews condeming the Who and this CD, Who are you, anyway?! Did you think this was going to be "Who's Next vol. 2"
Pete and Roger are in thier sixties now, and doing damn good. What have you accomplished in your life time to even come close to the Who?
Did you want them to die at 32 like Moon? Pete didn't die "before he got old" he simply made solo albums and carried on, as did Daltrey. And Entwistle was ready to hit the stage again, and would be with them now, if he hadn't died. The Who is back in a different form and God bless them for doing it. Rock is not just a young man's game, it's for anyone to listen or perform if you have the ability, and by god the Who is still alive and kicking. Who are you "fans" anyway? Pete Townshend does more in his sleep than you'll ever do in your pathetic life time, so get over it. Keep going Pete and Roger, and don't give it up until you're ready.
