The Cat in the Hat is a marketing ploy disguised as a wildly designed movie for hyperactive kids, and it could use a dose of Ritalin. It hardly matters, though, because kids will surely enjoy the rampant romp that occurs when the top-hatted feline convinces young Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad (Spencer Breslin) to wreak havoc in the home their mother (Kelly Preston) has neatly prepared for an upcoming party. It's all in the name of fun, and while Seuss's classic rhymes are relegated to voice-over narration, director Bo Welch capitalizes on his background as one of Hollywood's most gifted production designers (with credits including Edward Scissorhands and Men in Black), turning the Seussian town of "Anville" into a playful pastiche of pastels. As played by Mike Myers under layers of fur and latex, Dr. Seuss's mischievous Cat is mayhem personified, and the movie suffers from his anything-goes approach to getting a laugh. And though Myers delivers a few laughs while channeling voices from his own comedic repertoire (including "Coffee Talk" maven Linda Richman), a little of this Cat goes a long way, and he nearly wears out his welcome. --Jeff Shannon

Comment: I though it was a great movie. I saw it in a hotel once and thought it was good. How can anybody hate this movie? It was based on the book by the late Dr. Seuss. It was good and I think more people should give it a change.

Summary: That Is One Creepy Cat!
Comment: And yet at the same time, I couldn't help but like him -- sort of. The Cat was so zany, so totally and completely 100% wacko, that I actually laughed as I watched him execute one quirky antic after another.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give "The Cat in the Hat" a 5, possibly a 5-and-a-half. But I would take this over something like "Monty Python" any day. (Monty Python, in my personal opinion, is a definite all-time low. I have yet to see any other movie that sinks below that one.)

I wouldn't really recommend this kind of movie to anyone who is a true-blue fan of Dr. Seuss, but if you're just sitting around feeling bored, this will definitely help to kill the time, and give you something to chuckle about.

Summary: This movie is the FASHIZZLE
Comment: Dr Seuss got a new spin and it's funny. My kids like watching the antics involved in the plot. It's a fantasy movie, and my regular kids enjoy the silliness of this film. Adult humor which flies over the youngens heads, some toilet humor aside, it's funny, but not for the uptight. We're just normal people :)

Comment: We had rented this movie once and my son (2 yrs old) just loved it. He really loves all the Dr. Seuss books and immediatley recognized the story from the book. Now, whenever we watch the movie, he grabs his book and follows along. Even though Michael Myers is a little over the top annoying in some parts, as a whole we love this movie and is one of those that we can watch over and over - hence the purchasing of it! I believe the writers and producers of this movie did a great job with Dr. Seuss' story.
