SILVERFISH TRIVIA - ROBERT POLLARD

Pollard is back yet again with another album, probably the 100th of his haphazard and voluminous career. But “Silverfish Trivia,” a mini-LP at seven songs and 22 minutes, does mark a change in path for the former Guided by Voices frontman as the first release on his new label, Prom Is Coming. Since 1999, Pollard has released all his side-project stuff on the Fading Captain Series label, but the ever-moving-forward artis has closed shop there. “Silverfish,” bookended by plaintive string instrumentals, contains some classic Pollard tunes, mainly the chiming “Circle Saw Boys Club” and the schizophrenic, eight-minute “Cats Love a Parade,” but it’s hard not to hear it as just an attempt to break free for good from his GBV past and look to a new morning.
