LET IT GO - TIM MCGRAW
“Let It Go” is McGraw’s best effort yet. There are plenty of hits here — “Last Dollar (Fly Away)” is No. 2 on Hot Country Songs — but hits aren’t what sets this record apart: it’s how believably McGraw sings about life and love, pain and joy. “Whiskey and You” (”One’s the devil and one keeps driving me insane”) is a modern version of the stone country weepers of years past, while “Between the River and Me” is a dark tale of the murder of an abusive stepfather. McGraw sings Eddie Rabbitt’s “Suspicions” like a man who knows what it’s like to have heads turn when your wife walks into the room (and being married to Faith Hill, he does). Hill joins McGraw on “I Need You” (wonderfully different from the power ballads they usually do) and “Shotgun Rider” (perhaps the most traditional country song either has recorded). Billboard
