Gary Glitter possibly to be released this month

Gary Glitter could be released from prison this month, his lawyer has claimed.

The disgraced former rock idol is currently serving a three-year prison sentence in Vietnam for sexually molesting two young girls.

He is understood to be amongst a number of inmates being considered for amnesty by the president of Vietnam, to mark the Lunar New Year.

The country’s annual Tet celebration is always accompanied by the release of a number of prisoners, prompting hope for Glitter, according to his lawyer Le Thanh Kinh.

“My client is on the list for Tet amnesty consideration and I expect to hear the final decision in a few days,” he told Reuters in Ho Chi Minh City.

“If he is amnestied he will be released very soon, probably next week,” revealed Kinh.

Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was imprisoned in March 2006.
