THE GREAT BURRITO EXTORTION CASE - BOWLING FOR SOUP
Doling out another dose of quirky pop/rock a la prior radio hits like “1985″ and “Ohio (Come Back to Texas),” the new Bowling for Soup album should elicit smiles and snickers all around. First single “High School Never Ends” is a hilarious social commentary with biting wit, a bit of truth and an absolutely infectious chorus. Lead vocalist Jaret Reddick has an engaging, personality-packed voice that makes every song an event. On “I’m Gay,” the band deflates rockers who take life a little too seriously, then implores “Don’t hate us cause we’re happy!” Though most tunes lean toward the satirical, the band tackles more serious fare on “Much More Beautiful Person,” about the challenges some young people battle. Throughout, clever songwriting, solid musicianship and manic energy combine to roll a perfect strike. Billboard
