NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE - MAT KEARNEY
Singer/songwriter Mat Kearney leaves his hip-hop rhymes behind and mainstreams it on “Nothing Left to Lose,” the soft-rocking title track from his major-label debut and second album. The introspective single chronicles his journey from his Eugene, Ore., hometown to Nashville, offering an acoustic-led, sensitive-guy ballad that is catchy and relaxed. “To a kid from Oregon by way of California/All of this is more than I’ve ever known or seen,” he admits, then launches into a Coldplay-ish falsetto for an understated, mildly infectious chorus. While “Nothing Left” is a highly personal statement that lacks true personality, it is already garnering hot AC airplay and should make Kearney a serious contender for a spot on the next “Grey’s Anatomy” soundtrack.
