Radio station celebrates 20 years in fine style
THE south’s first commercial radio station is celebrating its 20th birthday this week. Ocean, now based in Segensworth, near Fareham, was launched in October 1986 as Ocean Sound and later became Ocean FM.
Staff celebrated with a party to welcome an old face back to their studios.
The station’s first ever breakfast DJ, Guy Hornsby - who welcomed HRH The Prince of Wales when he officially opened the studios two decades ago - returned to co-present alongside current breakfast host Richard Williams.

The pair played a recording of the first ever broadcast on the station.
Listeners were also treated to a special anniversary rundown of the top 1,000 greatest hits of all time, according to them.
Thousands voted for the soundtrack to their life.
Richard Williams said: “We really searched but couldn’t find a radio station which had ever done this before.
“We thought it would be a great treat for listeners for the birthday celebrations if we could play a lot of the songs that people really haven’t heard on the wireless for ages.”
